Herb-A-Lize It beats King Tubbys (UK) to take the trophy

Herb-A-Lize It traveled to Bologna in Italy on Friday March 18th to clash the London veterans of King Tubbys (established in 1970) in an all dubplates war over 3 rounds plus 7 tunes each in a dub-fi-dub. Although Tubbys didn’t shy away from treating the massive to several new tunes, a couple of recently cut I-Octanes and Mavado’s “Messiah” weren’t getting the wild response that (unfortunately for them) 2 Gappy Ranks dubs gained them in the first round (actually, not even the Garnett Silk and Dennis Emmanual Brown played back to back later on topped those forwards).

Overall Herb-A-Lize It took these first two 20 minute rounds convincingly with a blend of their own anthems,  dubplates of classic reggae anthems and convincing riddim segments spiced up with some Italian artist specials by Nico Royale, Brusco, Khalafi and Alborosie. The biggest surprise for Tubbys was however served up in the 10 minute third round with several custommades by Herb-A-Lize It, of which the Gappy Ranks in Tubbys’ face special had done di dance.

Although (also judging by the crowd’s reaction) it was a lock-off by then, as Herb-A-Lize It with Carlito selecting not only had outplayed Tubbys, but Sultan also outspeeched the 2 MCs of Tubbys, a dub-fi-dub was played that didn’t affect the outcome of the clash. Just one short round of voting confirmed Herb-A-Lize It as the new holders of the Sottotetto Cup Clash trophy.  Check here for pictures
